21 Best Pitbull Toys Your Dog Can’t Destroy in 5 Minutes

best pitbull toys

After years of owning pitbulls and bully breeds (and spending an arm and leg on toys), I've compiled a list of all the most indestructible, most fun, best pitbull toys.

If your dogs are anything like mine, you avoid plush dog toys at the pet store because you know they're only a 30 second activity for your dog and it's only a matter of seconds from when your living room is covered in stuffing like a winter wonderland.

I've picked up enough stuffing, squeakers and other things over the years to learn exactly what is worth the money, and what is going to end up in the trash in 2 minutes.

P.S. If you decide to order any of these toys for your dog SAVE THE BOX! Read why at the very end of this post!

Indestructible Pitbull Toys

Related: 11 Indoor Dog Activities Guaranteed to Tire Any Dog

Indestructible and pitbull in the same sentence doesn't happen often.

In all honesty, "indestructible" is a highly marketable word. In reality, there's probably no such thing as indestructible, however there are toys that last much longer depending on your dog's play style. These gentle giants know how to sink their teeth into some fun toys.

So, this selection of toys might not be indestructible as much as it is "nearly" indestructible, or... at leasts last a little bit (or a LOT) longer than some of the plush toy competitors.

If you have a dog who doesn't take long to take apart the stuffed toys, it's because your dog is looking for an activity and using their strength.

Some of these toys offer the opportunity to use brute force and encourage tug-of-war. But keep in mind that toys which encourage your dog to use their nose or brain will likely be as much fun for your dog as any plush toy dissection.

These toys offer longer entertainment and different styles of play.

Best Chase Toys for Pitbulls

Pitbulls tend to have a high chase and tug drive. When thrown correctly, these toys roll on the ground for quite a while. And let's be honest, the only reason your dog brings it back is the chance that they might be able to play some tug!

Nerf Frisbee

NERF frisbees are durable enough for chase, catch and tug-of-war.

ChuckIt! Ring Chaser

This ChuckIt toy is perfect for dogs who enjoy a long chase where they can sprint after something on the ground (and then tug later).

Best Toys for Pitbull Puppy

While puppies might not have the brute force of an adult pitbull, some toys can go a long way in tiring your puppy out. A puppy may appreciate the softness of something like the UltBone or Fabric Kongs.

World's Tuffest Soft Dog Toy - Ocean Creature Small Octopus

This is a crowd favorite (literally!) There's an arm (and a squeaker) for every dog to grab onto! We've had this toy for about 3 years now, and it still has one broken squeaker left in an arm!

Tuffy Ultbone

I can personally attest that after 3 pitbulls, we still have this toy mostly intact, and the dogs still play with it after 4 years. This Tuffy Bone has lasted longer than pretty much any of our dogs other toys.

Kong Wubba

This toy is the right amount of pull, squeak and softness for puppies and young dogs.

Kong Pitbull Toys

Kong is best known for their classic rubber toy that allows for stuffing with food. However, they make some pretty durable toys and that encourage lots of enrichment and something for your dog to do. Whatever you decide to stuff in your kong, consider freezing it for a few hours before your dog gets it, that way it lasts even longer.

Kong Interactive Toy

Take your dog's food ball to the next level with this spin on a treat dispensing ball. The middle ball also contains a maze so that food doesn't fall out easily- which means your dog will be entertained even longer.

Kong Tire

Pitties looooove a good tire. If you don't have access to an old, real tire, this is your next best bet!

The classic kong is not to be underrated. And- you can stuff more than peanut butter in there. Try these recipes for even more fun with a Kong Toy.

My own pitbull will forget to eat and start to starve before she stops playing with any of her Jolly Pets toys. The Jolly Pets brand has a ton of unique options for all sorts of play styles!

Jolly Ball Tug and Toss

While your pup is likely to chew off the handle (and maybe the rest of the ball) but this activity will last days if not years.

Jolly Ball Romp and Roll

Jolly pets are such a great brand! Your pitbull is bound to love this toy and you'll love it for the rope handle for tug of war.

Playology Rope Toy

Playology toys are pretty unique in that each toy has a different smell, which means your pup will play with it for a little bit longer! The only downside is that if you're the one playing tug, your hand might smell like the toy afterward.

Busy Toys for Pitbulls

Make the most of your dog's energy by giving their brain and nose something to do. Some pitties love tug so much they'd starve before they stop playing. Which is cute, but also tiring for the human.

Pineapple Chew Toy

Keep your pitbull busy with a pineapple chew

Here are some toys to consider for dogs who could use a little help slowing down over meal time.

Food Ball

Throw your dog's breakfast or dinner into a food ball and keep them entertained for 1/2 an hour or more!

Snuffle Mat

Did you know that your dog's nose will tire them out fast than a game of fetch? Cover your dog's meal with the high pile on these snuffle mats for your dog to sniff and root around.

Jolly Egg

This toy your dog will either LOVE or LOVE to hate. It is made of hard plastic and some dogs will play so hard they'll chip their teeth. So use caution with this toy as it's not for every dog.

Owl Rope Toy

When in doubt, a toy with a rope through it makes a toy much more durable and last much longer than toys with just stuffing and squeakers.

Pitbull Toys and Accessories

After spending a lot of time in veterinary medicine, for some reason I just thought that dogs couldn't have bones. After all, dogs were designed to chew! It's great enrichment for them and can tire them out - if you get the right stuff!

In the summer months, I give my dogs bones from the grocery store. They are pretty messy, so those are outside activities. However, in the winter time, these chews have provided a quite a bit of time! My dogs chew tendons and bully sticks for anywhere from 1/2 an hour to an hour, depending on the size.

I am just careful to avoid anything rawhide or highly processed. Always monitor your dog when they are chewing anything- especially if there are other dogs or children around. It's a great crate activity too, if you are working on crate training!

Pawstruck Natural 7-9" Beef Tendon Chew Sticks for Dogs

Tendons last just about as long as bully sticks- but without the odor! Any dog is guaranteed to love chewing on this!

Jack&Pup 6-inch Bully Sticks for Dogs

Our dogs love these- but despite what the packaging says, they are not odor free. So be mindful where you give these treats! There's also a 12" size (which is usually what I give my dogs since they last longer)

Bones

Most veterinarians don't recommend bones for your dog - so please contact your vet before giving these to your dog.

I tend to give bones from the grocery store (not cut bones if I can help it- and never cooked bones) but these are a much cleaner alternative!

Tug-A-Jog Meal Dispenser

Forget the slow feeder. This interactive toy will really slow any dog down, and it's durable enough that your pitbull will be guaranteed to have to start using their brain rather than their teeth to figure this toy out!

DIY Dog Toys

**Consult your veterinarian with any concerns about using cardboard for enrichment or any other toy that could present a choking hazard or is a risk for not passing through a dog's GI system.**

Remember that box you saved? Pitties love being destructive, and one of the best toys for your dog is probably already in your house.

Using a blanket or cardboard box to hide your dog's favorite toy or food can provide lots of entertainment.

You can make these challenges as easy or as challenging for your dog as you'd like! Hide your food on a level that challenges your dog, but they can still be successful. For some dogs, this might look like an open box. For other dogs you might have to add things like:

  • Closing the box
  • Taping the box
  • Putting a box in a box
  • Adding water bottles to create more sound and movement
  • Putting food in paper bags

Your dog is guaranteed to love working for their food in a cardboard box. And, if they ingest a little cardboard, it's likely to pass easily.

I help dogs and dog owners enjoy life together and sometimes I ride horses. 🐶🐴

*Shared with the permission of the owner* This i *Shared with the permission of the owner*

This is a call I get a lot, so I want to educate on some FAQs and common mistakes made when picking equipment for your dog.

People often search for new equipment when their dog is pulling too much or reacting. They feel overwhelmed and out of control and look for a new tool. Totally understandable. Sometimes we need to change the tool to get better results!

Owners often reach for prong collars- and GIANT ones- like this one because they think, “my dog really pulls/is extra large/is out of control so they’ll need the biggest size they have.”

But especially with reactive dogs, prong collars can increase defensive drive in dogs and make reactivity worse. Plus, we almost never need this size.

*IF* I use a prong collar (which is very rare these days) we’re usually reaching for the smallest link size and adding links for larger necks.

More than likely, we’re reaching for a slip leash, or for big dogs, something like the Heathers Heroes SideKick Leash that uses a power loop to disarm a dog’s strong back muscles.

Dogs are sensitive creatures. They can feel a flea on them, and they can be responsive to the slightest change in movement, pressure, or vocal commands. It’s the person who feel the need to get bigger, louder, stronger when they don’t feel heard.

We can teach your dog to be as sensitive as possible, and we don’t have to dull them with big, loud tools.

Pictures is a Great Dane who became sooo much more responsive and connected when we swapped the prong collar to the SideKick, which we’re starting as a slip leash. We are conditioning her to be comfortable with it over her nose too so we can be better prepared if she has strong feelings. I LOVE that this owner was so willing to trust me with her dog, own her past decisions, and be willing to share what she learned to help educate others!

Hi! There’s a lot of new people here recently, Hi!
There’s a lot of new people here recently, so I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself, the business and some updates!

I’m Alex Austin! I am the owner and trainer at Liggett Dog Training. Liggett (Lih-Get) is my maiden name, and comes with my mother’s side of the family who taught me so much about what I know about animals.

I have been training professionally for almost 4 years, but before that I worked in veterinary medicine, trained horses, and worked in an animal shelter. Along the way, I also got my master’s in Social Work and spent about two years working as a mental health therapist.

I got wrapped up with training when my own dog, Razz, was experiencing some very significant behavior issues and in my horse trainer brain I knew that I couldn’t send her away for training because her behavior depends on ME. Someone else could teach her the skills, but it was up to me to implement them.

So, I started digging in and doing the work myself, consulting a few mentors along the way. She is always a dog who will need some management, but we have both come such a long way with where we were.

When it comes to helping and training your dog I am here for YOU and your dog. Dog training, especially behavior modification, can be incredibly personal and emotional as you evaluate yourself, your relationship with your dog and the options that you have.

These days, I am heavily focused on pet dog training and teaching you and your dog practical life skills to help both of you enjoying life together. We approach training holistically- looking at the relationship, the lifestyle, exercise, and even your pet’s diet when it comes to maximizing your dog’s quality of life.

Below is a picture of myself and my dog Razz (the smaller one) and Cooper. Cooper recently earned his angel wings after a two year battle with Cancer. You’ll probably see him pop up on my newsfeed from time to time as he was a once in a lifetime dog for our family and an asset to helping other dogs in training. Continued in comments..

Razz came along for the run, too and overall did really well with all of the commotion! She wore a muzzle as a safety precaution but also to help alert others that she’s a dog who needs some space from other dogs to do her best.

We also chatted briefly about getting a foster dog in the next couple weeks 👀
